The design of the Main 65,000 Seat Stadium is drawn from some of Basra's timeless and essential icons. Light Islamic architectural facaded elements and the date palm tree provides for some of the traditional architectural influences which help to shape the dynamic appearance. The textured skin surrounding the concourses provides a very functional response to the climatic conditions of Basra.

The Secondary Stadium has the capacity for 10,000 spectators and is used for smaller events and for warm-up and staging facility for large multiple competitions for the Main Stadium. The shape of the stadium and the roof is inspired by the abstract from of a pair of praying hands for the blessing of the country.
